Today marked a joyous occasion in the realm of sports and adventure tourism in Ladakh as the Hon’ble BDC Shakar Chiktan, Sayeda Banoo, officiated the ceremonial flag-off for the Shakar Chiktan Royal & Queen Ice Hockey Teams. The event took place at the Ice Hockey Rink of Samrah Sub-Division, Shakar Chiktan, District Kargil.
Comprising a total of 46 individuals, including both men and women players, accompanied by 2 dedicated officials, the Shakar Chiktan Royal & Queen Ice Hockey Teams are proudly representing the Sub Division in the inaugural Royal Ice Hockey League. This esteemed league is scheduled to run from January 3rd to 13th, 2024, in Leh, Ladakh. It is a collaborative effort orchestrated by Royal Enfield in conjunction with UT Administration Ladakh and the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh.
This endeavor stands as a testament to the dedication and vision of Mrs. Sayeda BDC Shakar Chiktan in fostering tourism and Ice Hockey in the region. Her unwavering commitment is evident in the allocation of BDC funds towards the establishment of cutting-edge Ice Hockey Rinks equipped with Dasher Boards & Sensor Solarise Street Focus Lights in every village of Shakar Chiktan. Additionally, utilizing local funds, she has ensured the smooth execution of the Annual BDC Cups Ice Hockey Tournaments.
In a move to further support and empower the women’s Ice Hockey team, Mrs. Sayeda has announced the provision of complete Ice Hockey equipment, aiming to enhance their participation and performance in this exhilarating sport.
Before the flag-off ceremony, Mrs. Sayeda interacted with both men’s and women’s teams, extending her heartfelt New Year wishes while ensuring a safe and successful journey ahead.
This initiative not only elevates the prospects of Ice Hockey but also serves as a catalyst for the burgeoning growth of adventure tourism in the rural landscapes of Ladakh.
